Self discovery is an integral part of your personal development journey. The better you know yourself, the easier decisions will become.

You’ll be able to pinpoint areas of your life that could be improved. Knowing yourself will allow you to make informed decisons that guide you in the direction of fulliment and happiness in all aspects of your life.

Below are 20 journal prompts to help you deepen your connection with self. Enjoy. :)

  • If you died today, what would you want people to say about you at your funeral? Delve into each role in your life. What would you want your spouse, friends, siblings, and colleagues to say about you?

  • Think of the goals in your life right now. Why are they important to you? Are they actually something you want to achieve or something you feel like you should achieve? 

  • If you could do anything for your job, what would it be? If you aren’t already doing it, why not? Have you tried? 

  • How often do you compliment yourself? How often do you put yourself down? 

  • Do you feel like your emotions are dependent on others or external factors? 

  • Create a pie chart of your life. Include each area of your life, career, spouse/family, friends, personal development, health. What areas are you spending the most time on? What areas could use some work?

  • How do you see yourself? How do you imagine others see you? 

  • Do spend a lot of time dwelling on things that are outside of your control? How could you spend more time on things that are in your control? How would that impact your life? 

  • What’s one negative thing that was said to you at any point in your life that has stuck with you and potentially held you back or created insecurity and self-sabotaging dialogue? What can you do to release and heal this wound? 

  • What is something that made you stronger? What about it made you stronger?

  • What is something you do or have done because you think that other people expect you to do or act that way?

  • How often do you feel 100% yourself? Where are you, and who are you with when you experience those moments?

  • Are there parts of your personality you feel scared to show? Why? If someone else were to show those similar traits, how would they react? What would you think of them? 

  • If you’ve ever struggled with self-doubt, what have you done to overcome it? If you haven’t tried to overcome it, why not? 

  • If you had a friend who was doubting their ability to do something they were passionate about, what would you say to them? Would you be as kind to yourself? 

  • Do you feel in alignment with your purpose and path? If you don’t, can you imagine what it would feel like to be in alignment? Do you want to explore ways to get into alignment with your purpose? 

  • Do you think you act mostly out of fear or from a place of love? Why? How would things be different for you if you didn’t act out of fear? 

  • Are you intentional with your time and actions or do you just go with the flow? Why? What do you think would happen if you became more intentional? 

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses? Why do you think you are weak in these areas? How do you feel about your weaknesses? 

  • If you knew you’d never fail, and everyone would always adore you, what would your life be like? What would you do for work? Where would you live? How would you act? What would you wear?
